General Information
Age Concern Blackburn with Darwen was established in 1976 as a local independent registered charity. Since then we have worked with thousands of local older people providing a range of community based services.
We are a member of the national Age Concern federation, which is comprised of over 400 independent member organisations established by local people to meet the needs of older people in the area. Our common cause is to help make later life, a fulfilling and enjoyable experience and promote the well-being of older people.
Along with the range of services we provide Age Concern Blackburn with Darwen also plays a role in seeking to effect change by influencing decision-makers and educating the wider community. Our aim is to make the policies and practice of the local authority, health services and other organisations and services sensitive to the real needs and aspirations of older people. We also work in partnership with a range of organisations to ensure the provision of a range of high quality services and activities.
In addition, we are involved in campaigning on a range of issues which affect the lives of older people locally and nationally, from age discrimination to lack of transport facilities.

In order to ensure we provide quality and effective services we rely upon the commitment, skills and experience of our team of staff and volunteers.
We currently have 44 staff and approximately 160 volunteers who work across our range of services. We continually aim to improve our work through a wide variety of training and development and we hold an "Investors in People" award which ensures we maintain this aim.
